Saertje studied biology (fundamental biomedical sciences) at Utrecht University. She then performed PhD research at Leiden University, resulting in a thesis on the molecular mechanisms of cancer cell migration entitled: "Focal adhesion kinase and paxillin: mediators of breast cancer cell migration". She joined the Research Centre for Innovative Testing in Life Sciences and Chemistry in September 2007. Saertje is an expert in the field of molecular biology, cancer cell biology and signal transduction. Techniques she masters include cell culture, cell viability assays, Western blotting and ELISA. In her spare time she enjoys reading, running, taking walks and camping with her family.
